Frequently asked questions

I know that working with a photographer can be a scary thought. Especially if you haven’t worked with me (or any photographer) before, there are a lot of unknowns. I want you to feel confident in our working relationship, which is why I’ve answered my most commonly asked questions.

Newborn, family, and maternity

How do I book a shoot?

If you are ready to book a session, please complete the form here. If you would like to chat first, let me know—I’d be happy to help via email or arrange a phone call.

What times are available?

I typically shoot at sunrise or sunset, the best time for light! This will depend on the time of the year—soft and magical is what we’re aiming for—the first hour starting at sunrise, or the last hour before sunset. However I know when your little ones are involved, it’s not always that simple, so if you have a specific request please feel free to email me to discuss. For at-home sessions—flexibility is key—I understand that family life can be unpredictable. If your child has a particular routine or a favourite time of day, please let me know, and I'll do my best to accommodate it.

What locations do you cover?

I’m based in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, however I’m happy to cover surrounding areas. Please note: There are additional travel fees outside of 40km. If I’m travelling abroad or elsewhere in Australia and working whilst I’m there, I will share this on my Instagram.

I have a date, what next?

Upon selecting a date, I will send you a booking email, which includes a contract and a $100 deposit invoice. When you’re ready to move forward, simply sign the contract and send it back to me along with the deposit. Once I have confirmation, I’ll send you an email officially welcoming you to the Journey family, including everything you need to know about getting the most out of your session. Please note: Dates and prices cannot be held without a deposit.

What should we wear?

Don’t worry! You’ll receive a tailored style guide once your booking has been confirmed. The style guide includes suggestions on what to wear to ensure you get the most out of your session. However, please remember—this journey is about you—I want you and your family to be yourselves, so always wear something that you love and feel comfortable in.

What if we’re awkward?

It's completely natural to feel a bit awkward in front of the camera, especially if you're not used to being photographed—many individuals/families feel the same way initially. My approach is all about creating a relaxed and comfortable environment during the session. I’ll guide you through natural interactions that help bring out your genuine emotions and connections—and capture your unique love story. So please, don't worry about feeling awkward; we'll work together to create a fun and enjoyable experience that results in beautiful memories and soulful images.

What happens during a shoot?

My sessions are relaxed, but with intent. We’ll meet at our destination, walk together, talk and get to know each other first. I’ll give you gentle direction, cues and prompts so you’re never left wondering what to do. My intention is never to mould your connection around my style, or create camera-ready versions of you. I want to capture you just as you are. Beautiful in your flaws, anchored in the moment and vulnerable in love. Once we’ve captured a full set of images, I’ll let you know when you can expect to see your sneak-peeks and the full gallery.

What if my kids don’t play ball?

Do kids ever really play ball? As a mother, I’ve been there… many times. So I want to reassure you, I won’t be put out by your little ones excitement, tears or resilience. I allow ample time to make sure tears can be soothed, compromises can be made and joyful, adventurous moments can take place.

Should I bring anything?

If you have anything in mind, such as a change of clothes, please bring them along. For babies and children, think about bringing some neutral toys you'd be happy to feature in the images. If you want to bring something to encourage children to take part, I recommend dry snacks—they’re easy to clean, quick to eat and not too brightly coloured.

Our session is over, what now?

After your session I will send you some sneak-peeks, featuring a handful of images via your private, password-protected online gallery. I like to send these within 48 hours but please allow up to 2 weeks during busy seasons. In the meantime, I’ll be lovingly hand-editing your full gallery—which you’ll be notified once ready—generally 4-6 weeks after your session.

Can I download my images?

You have unlimited downloads and can share the private, password-protected gallery with friends and family too. I maintain your gallery for 30 days, after which the gallery is archived. So I recommend downloading and saving your images somewhere safe. I typically maintain archives for five years, but to access them after 30 days will incur a small fee.

Can I post my images online?

Of course you can, the images are yours! You’re welcome to share them, you’re also welcome to tag me if you would like too.

Can I keep my images private?

Certainly, I’m a big advocate for permission based sharing. Which is why it’s up to you to choose which images you’re comfortable sharing publicly and which should remain private. As standard my contract gives me permission to share your images online on my website or social media, however if you would prefer to opt out of sharing, please let me know so that I can respect your preferences.

What if it rains?

It is Melbourne, anything can happen. If you think you can enjoy the adventure and have fun with it, let's go—a light shower can make for an epic session! However if you do have very little ones or don’t want to get wet yourselves, we can reschedule to the nearest possible date. Most importantly, if it is torrential, hailing or lightning—I’ll be in contact with you to reschedule.

What’s your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

If an emergency arises and you need to cancel, your session is transferable to another date within 3 months of the original date. If your session is going to be affected by weather, I’ll be in contact with you to reschedule to the nearest possible date.
